9 parts of desire

This book I happened to start reading as my mother leant it to my girlfriend who only read first chapter and I had nothing else interesting to read at the time; otherwise, I probably would have never started it.
I didn't expect much from the book at first however not long after starting the book I was captured by it's raw confronting reality.

This biopic written by Geraldine Brooks takes you on a journey into the world through the eyes of an open minded westerner (Geraldine Brooks), who writes about Muslim history and Islamic culture, the ties between politics and religion and the complete domination of women.

This books talks about segregation of Islamic women, Polygamy, Clitoridectomy, Temporary marriages which some see as justified prostitution in most cases as well as a lot of other touchy subjects.
This book is a great read for anyone. I highly recommend this book as it will open your eyes. It was shocking, upsetting and uplifting for me. This book opens peoples eyes to one view of Islamic women.

On such a topic as religion I cannot comment on my opinion of a religious subject as I am unbiased on the matter however for those who wish to voice their opinion may do so just remember no abusiveness to other bloggers.

You will not regret reading this book
5 out of 5 stars from me.

A fighters heart

This book by author Sam Sheridan is actually his first novel.
A writer who decides to live out a dream he has had for a long time (Fighting).
Sam Sheridan travels the major countries renowned for particular martial arts in this biopic he meets very interesting martial artists and people who help him not only to train, and fight but also give him the knowledge he needs to write about the thoughts and mindset of a martial artist and the psychological edge that makes a man get into the ring or cage and fight another man in a violent display of talent and aggression.

Sam Sheridans journey also brings him unexpected obstacles along the way but he takes advantage of these obstacles and open the door to alot of new experiences for himself. This makes for some interesting reader however for you animal lovers be warned there is a section in this book which goes into Dog Fighting.
I am warning you of this because as an avid martial artist myself I however am not fond of the dog fight scene.

This is a great book in general but especially for thoe interested in sociology, phsychology and especially martial arts.
This is definitely a book of special interest so not for everyone.
My personal rating of this book is 4 out of 5 stars.

Kafka on the shore

This bizzare fiction novel I borrowed from my defacto girlfriend.
I wasn't too sure about it at first but it sounded like something I would enjoy reading after having scanned over the back cover of the book. It mentioned a dream world, talking cats and raining fish.
I am definitely into strange stories like that.

I was still unsure about whether or not I enjoyed the book until I got atleast a quater of the way through, then I couldn't put it down long, before I was itching to know what was going to happen next.
I was wrapped in the story most the way through to the very end.

At the beginning an unexplained phenomenon occurs. Natural or not? Noone knows.
This whole happening starts a domino effect that makes for a very interesting story of which the conclusion is impossible to try and guess.

It has alot of very fascinating characters with shining personalities. The story is based mainly around 2 characters. One an eccentric old man whom is surrounded by mystery and unusual events wherever he goes and the other, a high school boy reclus who makes a drastic move to leave his studies as he is lured for reasons beyond his comprehension on a journey.

These two characters mysterious lives eventually converge. What happens? I highly recommend you read this book and find out for yourself.
Haruki Murakami definitely lives up to the highly creative/imaginitive stereotype of the Japanese.
He gives this novel the feel of an anime with his enigmatic storytelling which keeps you puzzled and captivates the readers own imagination.
